Star Style: Daisy Buchanan {Get The Look}

I re-read The Great Gatsby over the weekend, ahead of the May release of Baz Luhrmann’s remake, and predictably I’m now obsessed with Daisy Buchanan’s style. Every fashion fanatic on the planet dreams of Mia Farrow’s costumes in the 1974 film – especially the sequined flapper dress – and I’m sure the reaction will be the same when Carey Mulligan takes on the iconic role. When you put Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada in charge of the wardrobe it’s sure to be a hit! So, with Gatsby firmly on the brain I’ve been searching for pieces with a hint of Daisy Buchanan style. Here’s what I found:

Ralph Lauren was ahead of the game when he showed a Gatsby-inspired collection, in Spring/Summer 2012, and a year on the look is still going strong. Tory Burch’s prim, embellished cardigan is a great starting point, as it doesn’t scream of the 1920′s and is an easy addition to any wardrobe. The same goes for Topshop’s floral ivory top, which can be thrown together with a pair of cropped trousers for a modern update.
Personally I’m most taken by Erickson Beamon’s drop-waist purple dress, though. Paired with Miu Miu’s crystal butterfly headband and a string of pearls it would definitely create the Daisy Buchanan look. It’s the most expensive option, but that’s to be expected. After all Daisy is a fashion icon with a voice – and presumably a wallet – “full of money”…
Are you inspired by Daisy Buchanan’s wardrobe in The Great Gatsby? Would you wear any of the items featured above?
